The Hon. Freundel J. Stuart, Q.C., M.P. became a Member of Parliament for the constituency of St. Michael South in January, 2008 and is now the Deputy Prime Minister, Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Barbados. Prior to this, Mr. Stuart served as a Senator during the period 2003 to 2007 and Member of Parliament for St. Philip South during the period 1994 to 1999.
The Hon. Freundel Stuart, QC, MP was educated at St. Marks Boys and St. Martin’s Junior Primary Schools. From there, he entered the Boys’ Foundation School where he received his secondary education. On leaving Secondary school, Mr. Stuart entered the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus where he gained a B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science and History, an LL.B (Hons.) and later his LL.M. in Public International Law where he specialised in the Law of the Sea and International Law as it relates to Foreign Direct Investment and the New International Economic Order. He is also the holder of the Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School.
The Hon. Freundel Stuart, QC, MP was admitted to the Bar in October 1984, and practised as a defence lawyer until his appointment to the Office of the Attorney General on 16th January, 2008. He was elevated to the status and dignity of Queen’s Counsel in September 2008. Mr. Stuart is single and is the father of one daughter.
